    Conheça Abraham

    Abraham foi alertado de que extremistas da etnia fulani planejavam atacar sua vila na Nigéria. Então enviou a esposa e os três filhos para um lugar seguro, mas não conseguiu salvar seu irmão. “Eles atiraram pela porta da casa dele; quando ele saiu, o acertaram na cabeça”, conta. Isso aconteceu há mais de três anos.

    Desde então, Abraham e sua família vivem em uma tenda em um acampamento de deslocados internos. As condições no campo são desesperadoras. “Nós lutamos para permanecermos vivos”, diz Abraham. Mais de sete pessoas dormem em cada tenda e três mil pessoas compartilham apenas 15 banheiros. Os filhos de Abraham não frequentam mais a escola, e ele mesmo abandonou seu sonho de ir para universidade. Às vezes, Abraham questiona: “Onde está Deus?”.

    Mais do que comida, Abraham valoriza o cuidado constante que recebe, pois isso mostra que Deus não o abandonou. “As coisas no acampamento são muito ruins, mas quando os vemos, ficamos muito alegres e animados. Sabemos que Deus está nos ajudando”, acrescenta Abraham com um sorriso.

    A perseguição violenta

    Por causa da violência e da pressão, o número de cristãos forçados a fugir de casa foi de 183.709, no período de 1 de outubro de 2023 a 30 de setembro de 2024, segundo a pesquisa dam Lista Mundial da Perseguição (LMP) 2025. A pesquisa também revela que 67 países integram a lista onde cristãos estão deslocados, com os líderes do ranking sendo Nigéria, Mianmar, Burkina Faso, República Democrática do Congo e Índia.

    Até o final de 2022, apenas a África Subsaariana contava com 16,2 milhões de cristãos deslocados internos, número acumulado ao longo dos anos. Na região estão alguns dos países mais violentos contra cristãos, como a Nigéria. De 4.476 cristãos mortos no período da pesquisa da LMP 2025, 82% foram no país. Bangladesh, Camarões e República Centro-Africana são outros exemplos de lugares onde a violência forçou milhares de cristãos a fugir.

    Conversion is the point of Christian faith that is most often misunderstood. It’s also a word that’s not particularly in favor of the modern world. No surprise. It was confusing when Jesus taught it to a religious leader of his day (John 3), and it is confusing to Christians and non-Christians today. So it’s good to spend some time explaining it.
    In the Muslim context where I live, many people from other faith backgrounds find it disorienting to hear me preach that no one is born a Christian, that all Christians are converting. Even those from Christian backgrounds are confused about conversion because many come from traditions that emphasize that a person is a Christian because of external reasons. But the Bible clearly teaches that conversion is not a function of your parents’ religion, of which church you join, or of what your passport says. It’s not based on your academic achievements, even if they are from a religious institution. Conversion comes from true, conscious, genuine faith in Jesus.
